Building Parks and Recreation Facilities Built or improved 13 lighted soccer/football fields.
Built 10 new parks (Ralph M. Lewis, Rosena, Charles Koehler, McDermott Sports Complex, Coyote Canyon, Sycamore Hills, Country Club Estates, Pat Marrujo, Almeria, and Fontana Park)
Renovated 5 existing parks (Bill Martin, Jack Bulik, Veterans Park, Jurupa Regional Park, Miller Park)
Built the area’s first skate part.
Created the community summer activity programs.
Created the Art Depot program Art in the Park, Music Under the Stars, and Art Shows/Family Days at the Art Depot; negotiated the Center Stage Contract; developed concert series’ at the new outdoor amphitheater; and scheduled activities for the Library Auditorium.
Expanded recreational programming by 54%, including utilization of schools and other community sites for satellite programs; expanded programming at the Nature, Don Day and Cypress Centers; expansion of the Summer Night Life event series; expansion of Teen Center programs; addition of 11 after school sites; and increased the number of sites for Pee Wee, Youth and Teen Sports programs.
Initiated a Healthy Fontana Program, developing it into a citywide program to promote and encourage physical activity, healthy eating habits, the Health and Fitness Boot Camp, the “Fast, Fresh and Fabulous” cooking class, “Step Out to Wellness” employee program and various community and county outreach events like the Kids Fitness Challenge.
Initiated a Community Assistance Program in partnership with local non-profit and faith-based organizations.
